With this award FNB and the Agricultural Writers SA would like to honour the efforts of our members (excluding corporate members) who excel at communicating important and riveting information about the agricultural sector.
The categories are:
- Print – focusing on communicating important and riveting information about the agriculture sector. (Prize money – R12 500 for the winner)
- Digital and broadcast now falls into one category – this category will include all communication methods that are presented on screens and that can be heard, such as podcasts, on-line events, multi-media storytelling and broadcast including radio and television programmes or inserts. (Prize money – R12 500 for the winner)
- Business management – including all business and financial aspects of agriculture, particularly those principles needed to ensure a sustainable farming business. This category excludes general production management principles and specifically focuses on business and financial management. This can be print or broadcast, but entries must be clearly marked for this category. Typically, entries will look at, for example, financial planning, or the impact of exchange rates on farming sustainability, or the economic impact of foot and mouth disease on livestock farming, etc. (Prize money – R12 500 for the winner)
- Young Journalist Incentive award – In addition, FNB is also offering an incentive award to young journalists. To be eligible journalists under the age of 35 must enter any of the three categories mentioned above. During the adjudication process FNB will determine who the recipient of this prize will be. (Prize money – R5 000 for the winner)
The audience may be the primary agriculture sector, related industries in the sector or the general public, as long as the communication focuses primarily on agriculture. This may include communication in print, broadcast, electronic or social media platforms and can include communication projects at events, entered by an individual.
